Hello Guys

As the High BMI part of the site begins to develop and gain momentum, I wanted to provide you with an area where you could chat to each other and me about your progress.

This is not private but actually, in terms of what we want to achieve, sharing our information, problems, queries is a great way of bring to light issues which are so unique to each individual and yet can so help others.

The High BMI series sets out to help those with a large amount of body fat to lose weight and get the health back into a normal, safe range.

We hope it sets into place some basic patterns and routines and explains how to chart your progress and partake in simple classes designed for your comfort and enjoyment.

We don’t always get it write, so help us with your feed back, what works, what doesn’t, what inspires, what’s difficult.
We do care, so please let us help you.......Lucy Case, Fitness Director, ThinQ Fitness

Hi Allison, thank you for writing in and well done on wanting to get yourself toned up this year!!! To build musle/tone one needs to create a force in that muscle which demands that it grow and respond to the load being placed upon it. no equipment needed try: Press ups, back raises, tricep dips off bed or chair, ltb classes and lots of abs. Start with the beginner toning sessions and work your way up to the advanced ones which in the main include a section of cardio as well as all the major muscle groups being toned. Good luck Lucy Case Fitness Director

Dear Lucy, I am currently working on a work-out regimen. I am including cardio (doing interval training to build-up running endurance) and yoga. However, I would like to include muscle-building exercises as well. I am currently working overseas in Latin America and do not have access to a gym or weight-machines. Are there any muscle-building exercises I can do at home? Thanks so much for all of your help! Love the site and the videos!

Hi Lucy Wanted to just say thank you for these videos. Bit embarassing really but there is nothing out there to help people in "the real world" so thanks. Zara

Hi Caroline, I agree Katie did very well in the video. Having chatted with Katie I know she is now hooked on her work out routines, fitting them in with running her own business. The benefits of exercising of course are that as the body adapts to the pressures placed on it, it responds and becomes stronger both in terms of strength but in its capacity to move for longer periods of time. Your dedication to intro-fit will be preparing to join you into classes like this and any of our beginner level conditioning classes. Lucy

Hi Caroline

I can see that the mixed messages are frustrating for you. Firstly, remember it is a combination of exercise and diet that will work. Evidence shows that diet is the most important of all in achieving body fat loss on longer journeys BECAUSE, if you ate the wrong foods and exercised although you would be fitter, you would not reduce your calories sufficiently to lose body fat.

However, exercise is also crucial because it burns calories and keeps the body burning calories long after the session has stopped. However, on a long weight loss journey it is essential to do cardio and weights in equal measures to burn calories and build up useful calorie burning muscle mass. In a way, abs on their own won't give you the tummy you require because you need to burn calories and eat less calories, however, as you lose the weight ab exercises are great for toning that area of the body.

I hope this helps.

Hi Lucy!

How are you and hope that you are well. I've had a look at your latest 'talks' to us all and I was very much able to relate to all the words you said.(gonna re listen to them as there was a lot to digest and ponder on so I'll do that in a separate email) Very encouraging.

The reason for this morning's mail is that I really need your help. It's about my belly size and mixed messages I have gotten. I'm 5'7", weight 14 stone 3 lb and a waist circumference of 43". I get very bloated too but the start of using herbs for that is under way.

Now the mixed messages I have received is that there is no point doing Abs work as it will make no difference to helping reduce my belly size and that info is devastating beyond words. Lucy what's the truth? Please shed some light on this for me.

I really look forward to hearing from you when you have a minute.

Caroline
