Bio:

Lucy taught her first classes, when she was in her late teens, for college students whilst dancing as a hobby at the Pineapple Studios in Covent Garden. However, she rejected a career in fitness, in favour of an artistic career and went on to become an animator and graphic designer for TV.  It was only later in life that she finally came back to dance and fitness, qualified as a teacher and then as a Personal Trainer. She now runs her own successful business the Body Fitness Company and has joined forces with ThinQ Fitness to become their Fitness Director and one of their fitness presenters.

Lucy is passionate about dance and fitness and believes strongly that it should be accessible to everyone.

Join Lucy in the blog to find out a bit about her eating habits as a busy working mum.

Lucy’s Tips:

  • Don’t spend hours in the gym working half-heartedly; work for shorter periods but at a higher intensity.
  • Every morning do 25 press-ups, 50 curls, 50 reverse curls and 60 oblique twists, whatever else happens that day, you will know you have done your abs!!!
  • Avoid all white flour foods.

Description

Lucy continues with session 5 of the extremely popular Introduction to Fitness online workout videos.

Week 5 is also 50 mins long (like week 4), but the fitness intensity level of the workout has been upped as your cardio vascular system will now be able to cope with a slightly higher demand. In this exercise class last weeks routine becomes this weeks warm up, a very simple new routine is taught using hand weights and you continue with press-ups, back and abdominal work to continue to develop strength and stamina.

This now starts to feel like you are working out and you will be able to monitor how you are fairing by comparing the level of activity in session one to the level of activity in session five. Lucy still wants you to try and do this five times a week before progressing on to level 6, the final workout of the course.

Equipment

Uh, I just finished the fifth day of Intro Fit 5...there is a lake around me (because of sweating), but I never thought I could reach this point so quickly and in a good mood :). Thank you again Lucy, next week I'll go into Intro Fit 6 and, if I'm still alive, I'll write again :). Have a nice week, Camelia.

This is a great series, I have just logged on to have a look and cant believe how active all these sessions are. I just wanted to say I have known Lucy a very long time and her classes were always packed because she taught so thoroughly so you definatly are in good hands. It is hard at the beginning but it really does get easier quicker, so just keep chipping away at it bit by bit. Anna Lovelock

Hi David, great to hear you are doing so well, and yes the developments of constantly repeating an exercise are quite quick. People avoid press-ups because they require real effort, but you get such great gains and I am sure you will see your chest muscles and arm muscels become a bit more reactionary when you flex them. Looking forward to those Egyptian pictures.....can you bring me back a Sphinx please? Lucy FD

I have at last mastered the complete set of 3/4 push ups after 5 sessions and just have to master the dreaded 'plank' to be fully happy with Intro Fit 5. I did not think that this was possible just 5 days ago as the step from Intro Fit 4 just seemed to be a rather large one. I am really getting with the program and at the age of 62 I would still recommend this set of exercises to anyone, just so long as you do as Lucy says and listen to your body as you go through each of the sessions!! Must go now my sixth session is waiting to be done.

I have just completed my third session of Intro Fit 5 and still have trouble with the dreaded push ups!!! Perhaps I will look for some added inspiration when I visit the pyramids here in Egypt where I am visiting later this afternoon and may try and get someone to photograph me in one of Lucy's famous torture positions whilst I am there!!! Yours very sweatfully, (Just finished the session!!!) David Mitchell.

Hi Lucy,I have just done my 4th Intro Fit 5 after a 2 day absence and its a tough workout but your constant encouragement keeps me going as without it I would have stopped by now espeacially when the muscles start to burn so thank you coz I really do want to get fit and lose weight and your encouragement helps a great deal. Have a great day,Caroline!
